Avoid the summer heat take in the cool mountain air

During summer (November to June), Mt.Stirling is one of the major gateways into Victoria’s High Country and the Alpine National Park. From Telephone Box Junction the Circuit Road provides access for 2WD vehicles to the walking track taking you to the Man from Snowy River film hut, Craig’s Hut. If you arrive by 4WD the Howqua Gap trail provides access to the Mt.Stirling summit and on to Craig’s Hut, from here you can drop down into the King Basin or over into Bindaree on the Howqua.
Unfortunately Stirling Experience no longer operate their daily 4WD tours, walking tours or group activties during the summer period. We are still happy to provide advice if you require any regional information. Send an email to

The vehicle access roads and tracks are shown on the following map.
